Learn More About UHMW
Learn More About UHMW
UHMW stands for Ultra High Molecular Weight and is the plastic Factory UTV uses to create skid plates, a-arm guards, and rockslides for just about every major UTV model on the market.
During its manufacturing process, the molecules of this plastic are compacted as densely and close together as possible. UHMW is roughly 100 times denser than HMW, and exponentially denser than ABS or other common plastics.
The UHMW used by Factory UTV is partially made from Recycled UHMW materials, making the constancy more rigid and impact-absorbent than new plastic, allowing the perfect flexing capability needed to endure impacts. Our UHMW has a very low coefficient of friction, making it slippery in rough conditions, but it has the impact resistance and density to withstand some of the harshest environments you can throw at it.

First the A-arm guards.
Went to install them. The D-clips don't fit on the A-arm tube and extend down to the guard. If not a redesigned D-clip, then an aluminum spacer long enough so the D-clip is over the top of the tube, then horizontal when bolted down.
The tapered hole for the guard screws is a bit small. Thus about 1/16" of the screw head is exposed after tightening. Not good, looks ugly and the screws will get damaged sliding over rocks.
The front of the A-arm guards needs to be about 2" taller. As is, they aren't above the A-arm tube by much. The height of the A-arm guards on the rear of my General are 3" tall, or a bit more. These are maybe 1 1/2" tall. So all sorts of debris is going to accumulate on the guard.
There is no reason the design doesn't include a taller portion to protect the CV Joint boot. Reusing the thinner/smaller Honda CV-Joint guard is ridiculous. Having Factory UTV design in a 3/8" CV-Joint guard that protects the entire boot isn't that big a deal.
My Factory UTV A-arm guards for my TalonX are sitting at home in the box. No sense in putting these poorly designed products on my Talon.
Hi Stuart,
We are sorry to hear you are less than satisfied with your purchase. I have made a note to the team, to make sure they update the instructions to make it clearer that the blots and clamps require quite a lot of tightening. I know with some installs, it can take some time, but I have been assured once the bolts are fully tightened, the plastic will lay nearly flush. But please do provide photographs if you find this is not the case.
As for the height, I do understand these particular A-arm guards are not as tall as some of our other designs. If this style is not to your liking we would be happy to accept return an exchange for a custom set.
Thank you for the feedback.
